No han sido pocos los seguidores de SOMBRAS que nos manifestaron que el tiempo que deben esperar entre la publicación de un número y el que le sigue se siente prolongado, y que para cuando un nuevo número llega, ya tienen que volver a leer todos los anteriores para recordar cómo venía la cosa. Y bueno, desde acá mucho no hay que podamos hacer contra problemas serios de memoria, vayan a un neurólogo qué sé yo, pero lo que sí podemos hacer es ir manteniendo y ampliando el interés de nuestros lectores, y la forma que encontramos son las BITS.
Para que recuerden, las BITS se incorporaron a partir de SOMBRAS 013, y consisten en una decimotercera página de comic, por decirlo de alguna manera, en realidad no forman parte del arco argumental en desarrollo en las páginas internas, aunque sí siempre conectadas a la historia de SOMBRAS. En este espacio aprovechamos, a través de unas pocas viñetas a color, a relatar episodios significativos, eventos, hitos, curiosidades y demás relacionados a nuestros personajes, actuales, antiguos, nuevos, viejos, de todo. Todas estas líneas se conectan, claro está. Pero llegar a hacerlo nos llevará toda la vida.
A través de las BITS fue que pudimos mostrar cómo fue que KIO se fusionó con Rhapsody, desde cuándo la telepatía de Darklight no funciona en Piel de Lobo, el momento en que aquél Retriever de los mechones blancos fuese reclutado por su antecesor, y más recientemente mostramos algún tipo de conexión entre un antiguo Retriever y un antiguo Yankai que ya habíamos sugerido alguna vez en las páginas de SOMBRAS. Aunque confieso que explicar lo que relatan las BITS no me emociona demasiado y no es el objetivo.
Ahora nos encontramos ante la posibilidad de continuar ampliando el lore de SOMBRAS a través de las BITS exclusivas, ya fuera de la publicación del comic en sí, aunque NO las sacaremos de los mismos. Sino que, ante el requerimiento de algunos de nuestros seguidores, publicaremos BITS sueltas. Estas BITS son material extra, sirven para ampliar más, para darnos herramientas para seguir atando cabos y conectando líneas argumentales, la información explícita en las mismas es obviamente limitada, por espacios, y porque siempre es más entretenido ir sacando conclusiones uno mismo de lo que ve, llegar a una interpretación propia.
Este agregado especial está dirigido a los verdaderos seguidores de SOMBRAS, y es por ello que el sistema de exposición que elegimos para las mismas, es a través dela aplicación Cafecito, donde Cacique Comics tiene su cuenta activa para recibir todo tipo de donaciones voluntarias, sin ningún monto mínimo pretendido y sin obligación de participar. Ustedes saben muy bien que la publicación y distribución digital de los comics de nuestro estudio se hacen de manera libre y gratuita, y que no obtenemos ningún tipo de ganancias, a esto no lo vamos a cambiar. Sencillamente dejaremos abierta la posibilidad de aportar un granito de arena. Vamos a publicar nuestras BITS, que van a poder leer y descargar en nuestro Cafecito, de manera gratuita por ahora. Y siendo que las BITS muchas veces contienen spoilers, es probable que algunas sólo sean accesibles luego de un pago a determinar.
¿Puedo leer SOMBRAS sin leer las BITS exclusivas? Sí, por supuesto que sí, pero créanme que no se las van a querer perder, porque constituyen un agregado que suma mucho a nuestro macrorelato.
¿Las BITS exclusivas sólo serán visibles a través de Cafecito? NO, eventualmente se darán a conocer, pero no de manera abierta. Sí cada nuevo número de SOMBRAS continuará teniendo su BITS clásica, que NO serán las mismas que las exclusivas. Y las BITS exclusivas sólo se harán públicas con la publicación de nuestro próximo libro, el tomo recopilatorio del Volumen Rojo, para el que aún falta mucho tiempo y trabajo.
¿Estamos cambiando nuestra metodología de publicación con el objetivo de monetizar nuestro trabajo? No de momento, no tenemos el objetivo de limitar el alcance de nuestras historias. Somos conscientes de que en los cinco años de trayectoria que llevamos con esta época actual e ininterrumpida de SOMBRAS hemos logrado cosechar una humilde cantidad de seguidores auténticos, no sé si corresponde aún llamarlos fanáticos. Y las BITS exclusivas son un obsequio para ellos.
Igualmente, como todo en este medio, es cuestión de ensayo y error, y estamos iniciando una etapa de testeo, que si cuyo resultado no es favorable, claramente interrumpiremos y mudaremos a otro método.

Pero no se habitúen a que siempre les contemos con qué conectan o dónde encajan, la idea es que ustedes mismos vayan atando cabos sueltos.

There have been many followers of SOMBRAS who have told us that the time they have to wait between the publication of an issue and the next one feels long, and that by the time a new issue arrives, they already have to re-read all the previous ones, to remember how things came about. And well, from here there is not much we can do against serious memory problems, go to a neurologist, what do I know, but what we can do is maintain and expand the interest of our readers, and the way we found is the BITS .
Just so you remember, the BITS were incorporated from SOMBRAS 013, and consist of a thirteenth comic page, so to speak, they are not actually part of the plot arc in development on the internal pages, although they are always connected to the story of SOMBRAS. These BITS are extra material, they serve to expand further, to give us tools to continue connecting the dots and connecting plot lines, the explicit information in them is obviously limited, due to spaces, and because it is always more entertaining to draw conclusions yourself fromwhat you think. This special addition is aimed at the true followers of SOMBRAS, and that is why the exhibition system that we chose for them is through the Cafecito application, where Cacique Comics has its active account to receive all types of voluntary donations, without no minimum amount sought and no obligation to participate. You know very well that the publication and digital distribution of the comics from our studio are done freely and free of charge, and that we do not obtain any type of profit, we are not going to change this. Can I read SOMBRAS without reading the exclusive BITS? Yes, of course, but believe me, you won't want to miss them, because they constitute an addition that adds a lot to our macro story.
Will exclusive BITS only be visible through Cafecito? NO, they will eventually be revealed, but not openly. Yes, each new issue of SOMBRAS will continue to have its classic BITS, which will NOT be the same as the exclusive ones. And the exclusive BITS will only be made public with the publication of our next book, the compilation volume of theVolumen Rojo, for which there is still a lot of time and work to be done.
Are we changing our publishing methodology in order to monetize our work? Not at the moment, we have no goal of limiting the reach of our stories. We are aware that in the five years of history that we have had with this current and uninterrupted era of SOMBRAS we have managed to garner a humble number of authentic followers, I don't know if it is still appropriate to call them fans. And the exclusive BITS are a gift for them.
Likewise, like everything in this medium, it is a matter of trial and error, and we are starting a testing stage, which if the result is not favorable, we will clearly interrupt and change to another method.
